Male Mandarin Duck Preening

mandarin-duck-aix-galericulata-51328.jpg

A male Mandarin Duck (Aix galericulata) preens while perched on a tree branch at Burnaby Lake Regional Park in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Mandarin Ducks are not native to North America and this one is most likely an escapee or was blown way off course during a migration. This individual has done quite well here over several years in a few different lakes, and even has a Wood Duck female as a mate.
