Richard Maxwell Root Cellar (1901)

Bigleaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum) leaves and the Richard Maxwell Root root cellar was built by Richard Maxwell in 1901 on his farm near Burgoyne Bay on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada. The Maxwell Farm, later the Larsen Farm, is now part of Burgoyne Bay Provincial Park. The Root Cellar was used for storage of crops such as such as apples, carrots, turnips, potatoes, and squash.
